Memorial Day on Monday is a holiday for many of the local governments. While the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has already affected many services the towns and county offers, those active may be affected by the holiday.

Here’s a list of what services will be altered on Monday, May 25:

Town of Chapel Hill

Chapel Hill Transit will not be running any buses on Monday. Saturday routes and schedules, EZ Rider service and GoTriangle’s 420 route will all resume on Tuesday.

Additionally, the town’s call center will be closed, and both residential and commercial trash will not be collected. The make-up day for collection is Wednesday, while commercial trash will be picked up by the end of the week.

Curbside recycling in the town will not be affected.

Town of Carrboro

Memorial Day yard waste and loose leaf collection for Carrboro residents will be affected, as they will not be collected on Monday. Service will be done for residents on Tuesday.

Town of Hillsborough

With all town offices remaining closed due to the pandemic, solid waste collection is the main service affected by the holiday in Hillsborough.

Town residents whose garbage is typically collected on Mondays will receive service on Tuesday. Brush collection will follow the same schedule as garbage collection, according to the town.

Orange County Government

Orange County administrative offices will be closed, and other county services will be affected too.

The Orange County landfill, waste and recycling centers will all be closed Monday. County residents are urged to contact the Orange County Solid Waste Management Department for additional information.
