Local elected officials are tackling several high-profile issues this week. In Chapel Hill, the Town Council will consider whether to move forward on development at the police headquarters site on MLK Boulevard, despite some residents’ concern about nearby coal ash. In Carrboro, the Town Council will continue an ongoing discussion of a new comprehensive plan. Orange County Commissioners will meet with state lawmakers to present their top priorities for the General Assembly. And numerous boards will examine their respective budgets, with public hearings in both Durham and Orange Counties.

Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
