The observation of Labor Day on Monday, September 4 will affect several local government services in and around the Orange County community. Here’s a rundown of what services will be altered for the holiday:

Town of Chapel Hill

Residential trash will be collected on Wednesday, September 6 instead of Monday. Commercial trash collections will be completed by the end of the week. Curbside recycling collection will be delayed by one day. The Orange County Landfill and other waste and recycling centers will be closed.

The Chapel Hill Public Library will be closed, and Chapel Hill Transit will not run on Labor Day. Parks, greenways, trails and other outdoor amenities will be open.

Town of Carrboro

Town offices will be closed on Monday, September 4. Yard waste collection will be postponed until Tuesday, September 5. For more information, click here.

Town of Hillsborough

Town offices will be closed on Monday, September 4. Garbage will be collected the following Tuesday, with services combining the normal Monday and Tuesday routes. The monthly bulk items collection will not be affected. For more information, click here.

Orange County

Orange County administrative offices will be closed on Labor Day. Curbside recycling will not be collected on Monday, and routes normally served on Monday will instead be served on Tuesday. Waste and recycling centers, the landfill and solid waste administrative offices will all be closed.

All branches of the Orange County Library will be closed on Labor Day. Orange County Public Transportation will operate limited service. Only the county dialysis route will be active on Monday.
