****UPDATE: OWASA completed repair work on Highway 54 around 8 p.m. on Thursday. A boil water advisory has been issued to residents in the Rangewood neighborhood.****

Residents in Chapel Hill’s Rangewood neighborhood are having their water shut off due to a leak in the region, according to the Orange Water and Sewer Authority.

A leaking water line in the area caused OWASA crews to shut off water to complete repairs on Thursday. A spokesperson for the service agency said the outage will affect 126 customers and the repairs are expected to take four to six hours.

Once water in the area is restored, OWASA will issue a boil water advisory for the Rangewood residents affected by the outage. Such advisories typically are in place for 24 to 48 hours to allow for proper testing and to confirm the water is safe to drink.

The repairs to the leak come one day before another water outage, this time a planned project by OWASA. The service agency has a planned outage slated for Friday for the area around the construction site of the Wegmans grocery store at 1810 Durham/Chapel Hill Boulevard. The project will cause an outage at four surrounding properties: 116 Old Durham Road, 117 Old Durham Road, 118 Old Durham Road and 117 Old Cooper Square.
