An OWASA contractor is beginning work on a water line replacement project on Bolinwood Drive in Chapel Hill around the bridge crossing Bolin Creek on Friday.
The water line in the area of Bolinwood Drive was damaged in previous flooding during Hurricane Florence in 2018. According to OWASA, replacing the water line is “key to improving the reliability and resiliency of our drinking water distribution system.”
Estimates from OWASA have the project taking 30-45 days to complete, weather dependent, and could involve some Saturday work.
Work will take place in the roadway and will cause lane closures throughout the project, including the possibility of a full road closure in the area immediately surrounding the bridge. According to OWASA, there will also be times when pedestrian access to the Bolin Creek Trail will be restricted from Hillsborough Street. The sidewalks near the bridge will also be closed during construction hours.
Both lanes of Bolinwood Drive and access to walking traffic will be reopened each evening. If a full road closure is required, walking and vehicle traffic will be permitted once the work is completed for that day.
Work on weekdays will take place between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. If Saturday work occurs, it will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
For more information on the project, please contact OWASA Utilities Engineer Brad Barber at (919) 537-4245 or via email.
