OWASA to Replace Water Line in Downtown Chapel Hill, Traffic Impact Expected

The Orange Water and Sewer Authority formally announced plans to install a new water line at the intersection of West Cameron Avenue and South Columbia Street.

According to a release from the service agency, construction is expected to begin this week and will continue throughout the month of July — and traffic impact is expected.

Contractors will soon be moving construction equipment and materials to the job site, and working from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. on weekends until work is completed.

Both West Cameron Avenue and South Columbia Street will have at least one lane of traffic open at all times, according to OWASA, and drivers should anticipate delays during construction.

The estimated end date for the project is August 1, before the majority of UNC students returning for classes will arrive to Chapel Hill.
