The Chapel Hill Fire Department responded to and extinguished a small fire at the Chapel Hill Town Hall early Sunday morning.

According to a release from the town, firefighters responded to an automatic fire alarm at town hall at 4:20 a.m. on Sunday. After arriving at the building, which is located at 405 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, they found a chair on fire in the lobby area and an apparent break-in on the second floor.

Chapel Hill Fire Department then extinguished the fire and officials are working to determine its cause.

The town said the Chapel Hill Police Department is investigating the break-in to town hall and that glass doors on the second floor were broken. No other damage was noted related to the break-in, according to officials, with some fire and smoke damage caused by the fire.

Sunday’s release said no other information is available at this time.
