New art is coming to the Booker Creek Trail in Chapel Hill and the town wants community members to have a say it what gets depicted.

The town’s Community Arts & Culture Department recently shared a message to residents asking for inspiration. North and South Carolina artist Max Dowdle has been commissioned to paint six cement and metal pipes that line the trail.

Dowdle shared a video on the Community Arts & Culture’s YouTube account explaining the project, his excitement and what he’s looking for from community members.

“I’m excited to be the artist that’s going to be working on this, I think it’s going to be a cool opportunity to bring some nature back to these pipes and make them more interesting,” Dowdle says in the video. “Is there anything that would help them better harmonize with nature that I can help facilitate?”

The artist and the town want to know what residents like best about the trail, what they enjoy about Chapel Hill Arts and how they want this new artwork to make them feel as they use the Booker Creek Trail. To submit input, community members should email the Community Arts & Culture Department or visit its website to fill out a submission form.

The town will stop taking feedback from the public after Friday, July 10.
