UPDATE: The Chapel Hill Police Department said 23-year-old Wesley Higgins faces several gun charges as a result of Friday’s shooting at a Dunkin’ location.

Higgins, a Chapel Hill resident, was arrested on-scene. He faces assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharge weapon into occupied property, discharge firearm in city limits, and two counts of assault by pointing a gun.

As of Friday night, Higgins is being held at the Orange County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond. He is slated to make his first court appearance for the charges at 2 p.m. on Monday.

Chapel Hill Police also provided an update on the victim. After treatment, the victim was released from the hospital Friday evening.

Chapel Hill Police responded to a shooting in the 1500 block of East Franklin Street on Friday afternoon, according to a release from the department.

The alert, sent out around 3:45 p.m., said the shooting occurred at 2:47 p.m. Police confirmed the shooting happened at the Dunkin’ location located at 1509 East Franklin Street. From visiting the scene, Chapelboro could not determine whether there was any building damage from the incident.

One victim was transported to UNC Hospitals with injuries that appear to be non-life threatening, while another person was detained at the scene. A spokesperson for the Chapel Hill Police Department confirmed to Chapelboro that the shooting happened between two employees and it is believed to be an isolated incident.

There are no other details being made public as of Friday afternoon, according to the police.
