A Sanford man has been arrested after an AR-15 rifle, two 30-round magazines and body armor were stolen on Monday.

Multiple outlets are reporting 26-year-old Westley Riddle was charged with one count of felony breaking and entering a vehicle, one count of larceny of a firearm and one count of felony possession of stolen goods.

Chatham County Sheriff Mike Roberson credited tips from residents for the apprehension of Riddle and the recovery of the stolen items.

“The items were recovered swiftly thanks to support and participation from the community as well as from our law enforcement partners,” Roberson said in a release. “We are happy to report that a suspect has been arrested and charged and thankful that no one was harmed as a result of this incident.”

The items were stolen from a law enforcement vehicle on Monday. An internal investigation has reportedly been opened to look into the events leading up to the larceny.

Riddle was held under a $15,000 secured bond.
