A Chapel Hill teenager has been arrested in connection with multiple break-ins after four golf carts were stolen from a local retirement community.
Authorities say four golf carts were reported stolen from Carolina Meadows on Christmas Eve 2017. Officials were able to initially locate two of the golf carts and found the other two during further investigation. The carts were returned to their respective owners, but the investigation continued.
A release from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said that investigations were able to link 17-year-old Ruben Gallardo, whose listed residence is across Mount Carmel Church Road from Carolina Meadows, to the larcenies. Authorities added that additional information uncovered during multiple interviews connected Gallardo to “two more break-ins that had gone unreported.”
Chatham County Sheriff’s Office investigators have now charged Gallardo with three counts of felony larceny and two counts of breaking and entering. He was held under a $2,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on March 26.
