A Carrboro woman has been arrested on charges she made purchases using the bank account of an elderly resident of Chatham Ridge Assisted Living.

Chatham County authorities were notified of “a possible fraud case” on May 22, according to a release from the sheriff’s office, where multiple fraudulent charges were reported on the victim’s bank account.

An investigation revealed 30-year-old Kelly Stella Maranje Odima, of Carrboro, “was seen on surveillance footage at multiple Walmart locations charging nearly $2,800.”

Odima was taken into custody by Carrboro Police on June 7, police records show, and is facing charges of felony exploitation of disabled/elderly trust, felony financial card fraud, felony obtaining property by false pretense, felony identity theft and felony possession of stolen property.

She was given a $5,000 unsecured bond, according to her arrest report, and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro next month.
