The Hillsborough Police Department has arrested and charged a woman in connection with the death of her mother and the kidnapping of a sibling from their Hillsborough apartment.

Jaydah Westmoreland, 19, of Hillsborough has been charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping. She is being held without bond in the Orange County Jail and will appear in court on Tuesday afternoon.

Town police responded to a welfare check on a woman at her residence in the Bellevue Mill Apartments on South Nash Street at approximately 7:45 p.m. Monday evening. Officers then discovered Delila Nicole Westmoreland, 41, dead from multiple gunshot wounds. Her two-year-old daughter was also missing. During the investigation, officers learned bullets entered a neighboring apartment, which was vacant at the time.

Jaydah Westmoreland was located in Durham and taken into custody without incident. The two-year-old was also located safe and turned over to family, according to police on Tuesday.
