Authorities in Hillsborough arrested two men for their role in a fatal shooting of a 19-year-old Thursday evening.

Police charged Efland resident Doyle Edwards, 22, with felony first-degree murder, felony larceny of a firearm and other charges, while charging Cedar Grove resident Chase Torain, 21, with misdemeanor simple assault.

According to a release from the town government, Hillsborough Police received a call shortly after 5:30 p.m. Thursday about a disturbance at the Hampton Pointe shopping center off North Carolina Highway 86. A fight broke out at the Hillsborough Discount Tobacco and Vape store and police report a 19-year-old Mebane resident was shot. Upon arrival to Duke University hospital, the shooting victim was pronounced dead.

Hillsborough said Edwards and Torain are being held at the Orange County Jail. Edwards has no bond and Torain is being held on a $5,000 bond from this shooting incident and outstanding warrants from Alamance County.

As of Friday, police are continuing to investigate the shooting and the town’s release said more charges could be filed.
