A Hillsborough man is dead after a shooting at a weekend family gathering in Durham County, according to the sheriff’s office.

A release from investigators on Monday identified 59-year-old Alton Antonio Wall of Hillsborough as one of two people who died. According to the sheriff’s office, who gathered independent witnesses’ stories on Friday and Saturday, Wall and 62-year-old Gregory Lee were at a gathering Friday night in the 6200 block of Edsel Road — which is in the western part of Durham County in the Lebanon community.

The sheriff’s office reports that, just before 10:30 p.m., Wall shot Lee and then shot himself.

Lee was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders, while Wall was taken to a local hospital for treatment before succumbing to his injuries.

The release on Monday did not specify the relationship between Wall and Lee other than the pair were known to each other, according to investigators with the sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division. The shooting is being treated as an isolated incident and the Durham County Sheriff’s Office says it does not believe there was any wider danger to the public. In the latest release, investigators said they do not expect any charges to be filed in the case and the state medical examiner will determine the official cause and timing of deaths.

No other information is being publicly shared by the Durham County Sheriff’s Office as of Monday afternoon.
