**UPDATE: On Sunday August 28, Chapel Hill Police announced 22-year-old Anthony Wuanya Holman of Chapel Hill was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.**
The Chapel Hill Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting from the late night hours of Thursday, according to a release.
The department shared information about the homicide Friday morning, saying in a community alert that police officers responded to a call at 11:35 p.m. reporting a shooting. When officers arrived to 800 Pritchard Avenue Extension — the address used for the University Gardens housing community — they found one victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Police later identified the victim as 19-year-old Chapel Hill resident Rahzel Tyreek Jenkins.
Police said Jenkins was transported to UNC Hospitals where they were later pronounced dead. No further information on the incident or investigation is available as of Friday morning.
Chapel Hill Police are encouraging anyone with information on the homicide to call 911 or contact the Chapel Hill Police Department at 919-968-2760. Anyone who prefers to remain anonymous can use the Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC Crimestoppers hotline at 919-942-7515. Police said information that leads to an arrest could be eligible for a reward up to $2,000.
