The Chapel Hill Police Department is warning community members to pay close attention to their surroundings while using ATMs after a woman was robbed following a withdrawal Thursday night.

Police say the woman withdrew cash from the Bank of America ATM at 851 Willow Drive in Chapel Hill at 10:24 p.m., then drove back to her home in the area of Old Chapel Hill Road and arrived about 10 minutes later. There, three men stole cash and credit cards from her at gunpoint before leaving the area. There are no reports of injuries.

After a preliminary investigation, police say the men followed the victim from the bank to her home. Investigators are working to identify the men, and no additional information is available as of publication.

Police are sharing the following safety tips with the community:

  • Call 911 if you believe someone is following you after you visit an ATM
  • Be aware of your surroundings, and don’t use an ATM if you feel unsafe
  • Be careful that no one sees you enter your PIN at the ATM
