The Chapel Hill Police Department is investigating a bank robbery on Tuesday afternoon.
A release from the department shortly after 4 p.m. revealed police arrested a suspect in a bank robbery at the State Employees’ Credit Union branch at 110 South Elliott Road.
Police said officers arrived just before noon to calls about a robbery and, after a brief search, arrested 36-year-old Michael Riley Wilson. Tuesday’s release said investigators allege Wilson attempted to rob a victim outside the SECU building before going inside the bank with the victim.
Chapel Hill Police said during the incident, no weapon was displayed and there were no reported injuries.
Wilson is charged with common law robbery, attempted common law robbery, and kidnapping. Local magistrates issued him a $50,000 secured bond.
Tuesday’s incident is the second to be reported at Chapel Hill locations of the State Employees’ Credit Union. The building on Pittsboro Street near UNC campus also had a bank robbery investigation in January, although the suspect was located and detained by police.
