The Chapel Hill Police Department arrested and charged a resident for an armed vehicle theft which took place early Wednesday morning.

Officers arrested 32-year-old Alexander Quinn Zeman, who the department says approached two people in a parked car outside the Chapel Hill Community Center at 120 S. Estes Drive around 12:18 a.m. He then demanded their keys at gunpoint.

“From the moment our officers and investigators received this call, they worked quickly to identify and find this suspect,” said Chapel Hill Police Chief Celisa Lehew.

Zeman was later found by officers around Elizabeth Street, which is right on the other side of East Franklin Street from 120 S. Estes Drive. He is being charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault by pointing a gun, larceny of motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and going armed to the terror of the public. He will make his first court appearance on Wednesday at 2 p.m. and is being held without bond.
