The Chapel Hill Police Department is investigating an armed robbery reported in the early hours of Wednesday morning at the University Place mall.
According to a release from the Town of Chapel Hill, police officers responded to a report of an armed robbery outside of the Planet Fitness gym at 4:48 a.m. The victim reported being approached by two men while the victim was in their car. The men used handguns to then threaten the victim and steal the vehicle, as well as other belongings.
The release said a third suspect fled the scene in a gold-colored, four-door sedan that dropped off the first two suspects at the South Estes Drive mall’s parking lot.
The town said police officers have since recovered the victim’s vehicle, but more information regarding the incident and suspects is needed for the investigation. Police encourage anyone with knowledge of Wednesday’s incident to call 911 or Chapel Hill Crime Stoppers at 919-942-7515.
