A Chapel Hill man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after police said he stabbed his brother on Sunday.

Both the suspect and victim were transported to UNC Hospitals for injuries sustained.

Police said that 20-year-old Kareem Tay’shaun Shah, of Nunn Street in Chapel Hill, has now been released from the hospital and transferred to Chapel Hill Police custody. Shah was then transported to the Orange County Jail.

Shah allegedly stabbed his brother, 26-year-old Scotty Levelle Clardy, last Sunday morning. Clardy was listed as in critical condition at UNC Hospitals in an update from police on Monday. A Chapel Hill Police spokesman said in an email Friday morning that there was no further update on Clardy’s condition.

Shah has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, according to police records. Documents show that the Shah is accused of stabbing the victim in the throat.

Records show Shah was taken into custody around 2:30 p.m. Thursday and made his first appearance in court shortly after.

Shah is being held under a $479,000 secured bond, as of last update.
