The Orange County Sheriff’s Office assisted in capturing and investigating a woman charged with murder as the result of a stabbing incident in Wake Forest on Tuesday.

In a release on Wednesday, Wake Forest Police Department said it will charge Rebecca Ashley Nelson, 38, with murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury upon her release from a medical facility. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said in a release Tuesday night a bloody woman, later confirmed to be Nelson, was being accompanied by a deputy to UNC Hospitals for further evaluation and personnel from Wake Forest were traveling to investigate.

The sheriff’s office received a call Tuesday night after a bloody woman entered a convenience store in western Orange County called the Poppe Shoppe. The initial caller reported Nelson had been stabbed in Wake Forest, but upon authorities arrival, the woman willingly said the Wake Forest Police were searching for her.

The responding deputy determined the woman was not injured and the blood was not her own,” said the Orange County Sheriff’s Office release. “However, upon assessing the woman, the deputy developed concerns for the woman’s well-being. The deputy called for an ambulance and rode with the woman to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.”

In its release, the Wake Forest Police Department identified the three stabbing victims as Suzanne Nelson, Susan Carter and Terry Carter. All three were transported to a local hospital where Terry Carter died as a result of his injuries. The department said there is no word on the condition of Suzanne Nelson or Susan Carter.

911 phone calls reported Nelson, who is registered at an address in Raleigh, drove off the from the scene of the crime in a black Cadillac.

According to the police department, the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
