The Carrboro Police Department has charged two individuals in a string of vehicle break-ins and thefts in the area of Pathway Drive in Carrboro. The thefts occurred on February 12. A total of 20 vehicles were broken into, one was stolen, and another stolen vehicle from Burlington was recovered in Carrboro.
The first individual has been identified as Jakori Leak, 18, of Hillsborough. Leak is charged with several felonies, including 18 counts of felony breaking and/or entering to a motor vehicle. He has not been arrested yet and is still at large.
The second individual is a juvenile and will be charged on a juvenile petition. He faces an identical set of charges as Leak.
The police department urges residents to lock their cars, take valuables with them, park in well-lit areas and to not leave a spare key in or on a vehicle. Anyone who observes suspicious activity is asked to call 9-1-1. Anyone with information on the case or the location of Jakori Leak is asked to contact Investigator Velazquez via email at evelazquez@carrboronc.gov or via phone at 919-918-7413.
