Authorities said on Friday that Bradford Perry Jr., of Durham, was arrested Friday in connection with a robbery of a customer and the store clerk at the ABC store on US 70 West near Mebane on Wednesday night.

Two suspects allegedly had handguns and stole the customer’s wallet, the cash register drawer and two bottles of liquor. In an update on Friday, officials said it appeared a third individual had driven away from the scene following the robbery.

A witness followed the suspect’s vehicle as they fled the scene until law enforcement was in the area. The pursuit led into Durham where the suspect’s vehicle collided with a State Highway Patrol cruiser. Two suspects fled on foot, according to law enforcement, while another was able to drive the vehicle from the scene of the crash.

The trooper’s vehicle was too heavily damaged to continue the pursuit, authorities said in a release.

Investigators used information from the vehicle tag and learned Perry “had access to the vehicle at the time of the robbery,” law enforcement officials said Friday. “Evidence in the vehicle and video from the ABC store confirmed his identity.”

“From the beginning, this was a complicated, multi-agency case,” Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood said in a release. “We are so grateful to have such excellent partnerships with other law enforcement agencies, including the Durham Police Department and the Highway Patrol. This was a hostile, aggressive crime, and it is great to be able to work this case with the force multiplying effect of strong working relationships.”

Perry has been charged with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of second-degree kidnapping, felony flee to elude and conspiring to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Additional traffic violations are being brought by the Highway Patrol following the pursuit, officials said.

Perry is being held under a $500,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon.
