UPDATE: Balloons & Tunes reopened to the public in January 2021 under new ownership.


A longtime local business in downtown Carrboro has permanently closed its doors.

Party supply store Balloons & Tunes, located on West Main Street, announced on Wednesday it will be closing after 40 years in business. Co-owners Sharon Collins and Pat Garavaglia shared a message to the community on the store’s website, saying “Many thanks to all of our loyal customers for supporting us for forty years.”

The shop, which has provided decorating services and delivery of balloon creations since 1980, will soon undergo an inventory clearance sale to help with liquidation. Balloons & Tunes shared on its Facebook page anyone who may have an outstanding gift certificate is encouraged to contact the shop in order to receive a refund.

The store temporarily closed in March in an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus locally. Since then, Balloons & Tunes operated with contactless curbside pickup and limited delivery options.
