UPDATE: The Mauldin family shared a message on Saturday, August 20 saying the Carrboro Pizza Oven would close its operations at the end of the day.

To: All Our Valued Guests and Friends

It is with great sadness that we announce the closing of Carrboro Pizza Oven. Our lease expires on August 31st and we were not able to come to an agreement with the landlord on how to move forward. We want to thank all of our wonderful guests and employees for supporting us over these past years. What started as a little pizza shop in 2011 grew into a place that had welcomed thousands of guests and employed some of Carrboro’s best citizens over the years. We are extremely humbled that so many embraced our restaurant and that we were able to succeed as long as we had. For a restaurant to survive and thrive for 10 years is an accomplishment of which we can all be proud. And we could not have done it without all of you.

Today is the last day of operations.  We hope that you will come out one more time to have a pizza and support the team.

The owner of Carrboro Pizza Oven, a restaurant located in Carr Mill Mall, recently announced he is looking to sell the business.

Carrboro Pizza Oven has been open since 2013. The restaurant advertises locally sourced ingredients for its Detroit, Grandma and New York-styled pizzas.

Jeff Mauldin, owner of Carrboro Pizza Oven, relocated to Southern California area to join his family, turning over the day-to-day operations before making the move.

In a web post shared on the restaurant’s website and social media, Mauldin wrote the move is a driving factor for his choice to try and find a new owner.

“Being 2683 miles away and not being involved in the daily business has led me to come to the decision to sell Carrboro Pizza Oven,” the owner said in the statement. “I believe a small business’s success is the connections made with the community and living within the community served by that business owner.  I am standing behind my beliefs and stepping aside. It is my sincerest desire to see CPO continue to serve the community that has been so kind and generous to us.”

Mauldin’s message did not mention or suggest that his restaurant has plans of closing.

Carrboro Pizza Oven is on the side of Carr Mill Mall that has experienced recent change. The popular outfitters and camping store Townsend Bertram & Company closed its doors in late 2020 after its owner retired. The well-known Elmo’s Diner next door also closed in 2020, with Grata Café since replacing it.

The sale of Carrboro Pizza Oven is being brokered by Neal DePersia. For more information about the listing, click here.
