Editor’s Note: The original version of this story said Flying Pierogi’s soft opening was April 15. That is incorrect. The restaurant’s soft opening is this week, with the official opening date set for April 15. The story has been corrected.
The popular Flying Pierogi food truck, which has been operating in Chapel Hill and Carrboro for more than five years, will officially open its new brick-and-mortar location in the South Green shopping center on April 15. South Green is located at 101 Two Hills Drive in Carrboro.
The restaurant is holding its soft opening daily this week from noon to 7 p.m., offering coffee and pierogis while expanding its menu throughout the week.
“We’re thrilled that our dream of opening our delicatessen in a dedicated place that we can call our own is now a reality,” said owner Jaysen Wilson. “This day has been a long time coming, and we’re ready to welcome both our long-time customers and those who are just getting to know us in a welcoming and inviting space that truly fits our needs.”
Flying Pierogi specializes in Polish and German street food, as well as offering specialty coffees, pastries and a cocktail bar. It will take over the space previously occupied by Coronato Pizza, which closed in October.
“This location is very centrally located to many neighborhoods and downtown Carrboro,” said Tyler Huntington, who represented Flying Pierogi in its lease. “The convenient free parking and central location make this the perfect spot to meet friends for a relaxing coffee or business lunch. In addition, easy access from 15-501 allows customers to visit Flying Pierogi without navigating downtown traffic.”
Flying Pierogi’s food truck will now be primarily used for catering and special events, according to the company. Plans are in place to work “closely” with UNC once the new brick-and-mortar location is operational.
