Craftboro Brewing Depot in the South Green Shopping Center in Carrboro will be closing February 17, the business announced Tuesday morning.
Craftboro cited several reasons for its impending closure, including equipment failures and struggles with the COVID pandemic. The business also noted “other obstacles out of our control such as inflation on everything from grain to utilities.”
“Our financial and emotional resources are exhausted,” the announcement read, “and it breaks our hearts to close Craftboro, and yet this is the only option left.”
Until February 17, Craftboro will operate during its usual business hours: 2 p.m. through 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. The brewery will be the third business within the South Green Shopping Center – located at Two Hills Drive off South Greensboro Street in Carrboro – to have closed since the fall: Coronato Pizza shut its doors in October amid a contentious lawsuit with the neighboring Oasis Cigar Lounge, and Oasis then closed shortly after. Craftboro’s announcement gave no indication the business would look for a new location.
“We close the doors knowing it was not due to our beer, because we make the best damn beer around,” its statement said. “We close the doors knowing it was not due to our brewery… we are honored to know our brewery is part of so many other stories in the works. We have loved our staff over the years as they’re Craftboro family, too.
“We close our doors due to an onslaught of challenges beyond our control that eventually overcame our ability to get back up.”
