Former North Carolina governor and 2026 U.S. Senate candidate Roy Cooper will be hosting a “Get Out The Vote Concert” in Carrboro Friday, October 23. The concert will be held at 107 Brewer Lane, which has long been planned as a new concert venue by the ownership of Cat’s Cradle in addition to the club’s space at 300 East main Street.
The campaign team for the Democratic nominee announced the concert setlist Wednesday evening after initially sharing plans for a Carrboro concert on Tuesday. It features several North Carolina artists, including Watchhouse (formerly Mandolin Orange), Hiss Golden Messenger, Tift Merritt, Viv & Riley and Karly Hartzman, lead singer of the band Wednesday. The promotional post also noted Governor Josh Stein and Associate Supreme Court Justice Anita Earls would be joining Cooper at the event. Earls is up for re-election this November.
Doors open for the concert at 5 p.m. and the show starts at 6:30 p.m. The event is not selling tickets, but is requiring an RSVP for those wishing to attend.
Cooper, a Democrat, served two terms as North Carolina’s governor from 2016-24. Two years after leaving office, he and Republican Michael Whatley are running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Thom Tillis.
The ‘Get Out The Vote Concert’ will take place roughly halfway through the early voting period, which starts in North Carolina on Thursday, October 15 and runs through Saturday, October 31 at 3 p.m. Election Day across the state and country is Tuesday, November 3.
Details on New Cat’s Cradle Venue
The building at 107 Brewer Lane has been under renovation for years as Cat’s Cradle and owner Frank Heath have worked to turn it into a space for concerts. A release shared Thursday says the new club has a capacity of 1,100 people and features a state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems. Similar to Cat’s Cradle’s Back Room concert space, the Brewer Lane venue also features a mezzanine in addition to the main floor to create varied audience experiences at shows and events.
”We’ve been working hard for years on the space and are excited to allow the community in to preview it,” Heath said in a press release. “We will soon have three active venues in Carrboro, giving us the flexibility to promote a variety of shows across all genres, featuring developing and established acts.”
Alongside its own announcement of the “Get Out The Vote Concert,” Cat’s Cradle shared the second “preview event” at 107 Brewer Lane will be a Built to Spill show on Tuesday, November 3 and a grand opening celebration will be announced at a later date.
