A longtime favorite restaurant in Chapel Hill is moving locations.
Breadmen’s in Chapel Hill — currently located on West Rosemary Street — is currently closed while it moves to a new home at 261 South Elliot Road.
“Breadmen’s is relocating,” a sign on the door of the restaurant reads. “Please look for us in our new location Summer 2020. We have stopped our operations so that we can focus on our new location. We hope to be ready to open our doors in July 2020.”
261 South Elliott Road was the home of Haw River Grill, which is now permanently closed.
In addition, current items from Breadmen’s will soon go up for auction. A post from Wester Auction & Realty Inc. states that an auction will be held on Friday, July 17 to sell items from Breadmen’s and Haw River Grill.
Breadmens has been open in Chapel Hill since 1974, when UNC graduate Roy Piscitello elected to stay in town and open the restaurant.
“Roy had graduated UNC and really did not want to leave Chapel Hill,” says Breadmen’s website. “When he opened Breadmen’s he targeted the late night after bar crowd, breakfast and lunch. Not too long after he opened up, his sister Arlene, also a UNC graduate came back to Chapel Hill to help him.”
Roy’s brother Bill later moved to Chapel Hill and helped him open the restaurant Trello’s, but that restaurant only lasted one year before they decided to turn their attention solely to Breadmen’s.
