CHAPEL HILL – Christmas decorations hit the stores earlier each year and so are Black Friday deals.
Not every store holds a sale on Black Friday, but many say they expect traffic. Co-owner of Cameron’s Gift Shop, Wendy Smith, says that the few days before Christmas are the busiest, and the plans are to extend the hours.
“Well we in the past were at University Mall and we just kept mall hours, but this year being in our new location we are going to try opening at 8 and we’ll be open until 10” Smith says.
Cameron’s may not have sales on Friday, but Smith says Saturday is American Express’ day to support small businesses.
“Saturday is Small Business Saturday, its sort of a day that American Express started to encourage people to shop small businesses during the weekend of Thanksgiving, and so we’ll offer some sort of deal that weekend” Smith states.
Often retail stores with clothing will offer discount or sales to move out some of their inventory during this time of year. Sales manager at Fine Feather’s, Pam Patterson, says her store will be offering discounts on several clothes.
“We always have a sale after Thanksgiving and it coincides with the day after, so we will be beginning our markdowns of 33 to 60 percent off” Patterson states.
Other stores that offer discounts throughout the year, like Dillard’s at University Mall, says it will not be offering any deals for Black Friday.
Although many places wait until Black Friday itself to begin their sales, others like the Tanger Outlet and Home Depot will offer sales before that. General Manager for Tanger Outlet, Jeff Johnson says his store plans on starting the sale right before Black Friday.
“Pretty much kicking off our biggest sale of the year, we will be open from 10:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving night through 10:00 p.m. the following night on Friday; and then we have things going on that Saturday and Sunday too, all during Black Friday weekend” Johnson says.
Stores at Tanger Outlet offer discounts throughout the year and will continue some sales throughout the weekend.
