Daniel Allison of Hillsborough won a $512,111 prize off of a $1 lottery ticket last week. Allison bought his ticket for the Cash 5 game online, then matched all five drawn numbers to win the jackpot. The odds of such a win are 1 in 962,598.
Allison claimed his prize at the lottery headquarters in Raleigh Tuesday. After required federal and state tax withholdings, he will take home $367,448.
Cash 5 is one of multiple games offered by the North Carolina Education Lottery where players can either buy tickets at a retail location or online, either through the lottery’s website or through its mobile app.
