
The observation of Memorial Day on Monday, May 27 will affect multiple local government services around Orange County. Here’s a complete list of which services in which towns will be moved due to the holiday:
Town of Chapel Hill
Memorial Day is an official town holiday. Town and other administrative offices will be closed.
Residential trash will not be collected on Monday, with the make-up day scheduled for Wednesday, May 29. Curbside recycling collection will be delayed by one day, and the Orange County landfill and other waste and recycling centers will be closed. Commercial trash will not be collected, but collections will be completed by the end of the week.
Chapel Hill Transit will not operate on May 27, and the Chapel Hill Public Library will be closed.
The Parks and Rec Administrative offices, Chapel Hill Community Center Pool, Hargraves Center, A.D. Clark Outdoor Pool, Nate Davis Sr. Gymnasium and Teen Center will all be closed on Monday. The Homestead Aquatic Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday. For more information, click here.
Town of Carrboro
Town offices will be closed on Monday.
Yard waste will not be collected on Monday, and residents who normally have waste collected on Monday will have it collected on Tuesday.
The Orange County Veterans memorial committee will host a Memorial Day program at 8:45 a.m. on Monday at the Veterans Memorial Site, located at 2501 Homestead Road. Mayor Barbara Foushee will provide welcoming remarks.

Town of Hillsborough
Hillsborough town offices will be closed.
There will be no garbage collection on Monday. The following day will see Monday’s and Tuesday’s routes combined.
Orange County
Orange County administrative offices will be closed.
Curbside recycling will not be collected on Monday and will be delayed by one day. Recycling and convenience centers, Solid Waste administrative offices and the landfill will all be closed.
All branches of the Orange County Library will be closed on Monday.
Orange County Public Transportation will operate limited service on Monday, serving only the county dialysis route. Full service will resume on Tuesday.
