
The observation of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 20 will affect local government services around the Orange County community. Here’s what residents can expect this year:
Town of Chapel Hill
Town offices will be closed on Monday.
Residential trash normally collected on Monday will be collected on Wednesday, January 22. Curbside recycling collection will be delayed by one day. Commercial trash will not be collected, and collections will be completed by the end of the week. Yard trimmings collection will not be collected.
The Chapel Hill Public Library will be closed.
Chapel Hill Transit will run its Sunday routes on Monday. The U and NU routes will not run.
The Hargraves Center, Teen Center and Homestead Aquatics Center will also be closed.

Town of Carrboro
Carrboro town offices will be closed on Monday. Monday’s yard waste collection will be picked up on Tuesday. For more information, and for information on the town of Carrboro’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration, click here.
Town of Hillsborough
Hillsborough town offices will be closed on Monday. Solid waste routes will not be serviced and residential waste collection will occur on Tuesday for both Monday and Tuesday routes. Recycling collection will be delayed to Thursday, January 23.

Orange County
Orange County Government offices will be closed on Monday. Recycling collection throughout the week will be delayed by one day.
In addition, Orange County Animal Services will be closed. Anyone with an animal-related emergency is asked to call 9-1-1. The Orange County Main Library in Hillsborough and the Cybrary will both be closed on Monday. For more information, click here.
