The latest edition of the U.S. News & World Report national university rankings is out, and UNC once again ranks highly.
This year’s list ranks Carolina in a tie with Georgetown University for No. 22 overall and as the No. 4 public university in the country — up one spot from its ranking in 2022. UNC sits behind only the University of California-Berkeley, UCLA and the University of Michigan for best public schools in the country.
“Carolina’s ranking as one of the top four public universities in the country demonstrates our commitment to excellence, affordability, innovation, and service,” said UNC Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz. “Our students, faculty and staff strive to make Carolina the leading global public research university every day. Being passionately public, we are also proud to be recognized for our dedication to making Carolina’s world-class education accessible and affordable to people across our state and around the world.”
“Over the past several years, our campus Board of Trustees has worked closely with the university’s administration, our world-class faculty, the UNC System Board of Governors, the N.C. General Assembly and other key stakeholders to make Carolina a national leader,” Chair of the UNC Trustees John Preyer added in his own statement. “Our students and alumni are our greatest success stories, applying their UNC education as they lead in their communities, our state, our nation and the world. This new national recognition is the result of Tar Heel teamwork and a consistent commitment to excellence by everyone involved. On behalf of the trustees, thank you all.”
UNC also ranked No. 14 overall for best value schools, and ranked No. 1 in value among public schools for the 19th consecutive year.
Several individual schools within the university ranked in the Top 10 nationwide, including nursing (No. 4), marketing (No. 7) and undergraduate business (tied for No. 8). UNC also ranked as the No. 9 best college for veterans.
