First is the season opener in Blacksburg against Virginia Tech, which will kick off at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3 and air on ESPN.
The Tar Heels then move on to their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 11 against Georgia State. That game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start on the Regional Sports Networks.
Another home game awaits in Week Three against Virginia, which will be another night game (7:30 p.m.) for a Tar Heel team expected to be ranked among the top 15 in the country when the season begins. The ACC Network will have coverage of that game.
The other two games receiving information on were for later in the season, beginning with a Thursday night road game at Pitt on Nov. 11. ESPN will carry that game, which is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
UNC will end the regular season at Carter-Finley Stadium against NC State on Friday, Nov. 26 with a nationally televised contest on either ABC or ESPN. The start time will either be 3:30 or 7:00 p.m.
It was also previously announced that UNC’s trip to Notre Dame on Saturday, Oct. 30 will be shown on NBC at 7:30 p.m.
Details for the remaining six games on the Tar Heels’ schedule will be released 12 days prior to each matchup, unless a network exercises a six-day pick for a particular game.
UNC went 8-4 last season on the way to an appearance in the Orange Bowl, where the Tar Heels fell to No. 5 Texas A&M in a thrilling game that wasn’t decided until the fourth quarter.
Junior quarterback Sam Howell and the Tar Heels return 21 of the 22 starters from the Orange Bowl and welcome a highly-touted recruiting class–creating expectations and earning the program this slate full of prime-time TV slots.
