Normally, the Carrboro Music Festival draws crowds to downtown to watch Triangle-area performers live and for free. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the popular festival has adapted to still bring great local music to the community.
The 23rd annual Carrboro Music Festival announced details for this year’s festival, including the performance lineup. Dozens of local musicians are set to virtually perform on Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4. According to festival organizers, the acts will be live-streamed as they perform or will be pre-recorded at four venues through the weekend: Cats Cradle, the Century Center, The ArtsCenter and 97.9 The Hill. Listeners will be unable to access the venues in person, since video of all performances will be available on the music festival’s website.
The festival schedule begins Saturday, as musicians perform at Cats Cradle and the Century Center from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Sunday, performances are from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. with The ArtsCenter and 97.9 The Hill added as venues. 97.9 The Hill’s performances will be broadcast live on-air from our studio, commercial free and will be audio-streamed on Chapelboro and the festival’s website.
Traditionally, the Carrboro Music Festival has worked to showcase Triangle-area bands and performers with varied musical styles. Everyone who plays during the festival are volunteers who donate their talents to foster a strong sense of community while revealing their talents to a wider audience.
The event is a product of a coordinated effort by the Carrboro Recreation, Parks, & Cultural Resources Department and the Carrboro Music Festival Planning Committee. The program is also supported by the Town of Carrboro and the Carrboro Tourism Development Authority.
The full schedule and list of bands and performances, as well as an exclusive on-air conversation with festival Music Director Glenn Jones, can be found below. On October 3 and 4, performance streams will be available on Carrboro Music Festival’s website.
