Playing its first game of the 2020 season on the road Saturday afternoon, the top-ranked UNC women’s lacrosse team wasted no time asserting its dominance in a 15-7 victory over 16th-ranked James Madison.
Ally Mastroianni scored just 42 seconds into the game to give the Tar Heels a lead they would ultimately hold on to the rest of the game, never once allowing James Madison to even tie the game back up.
Scottie Rose Growley, Tayler Warehime and Jamie Ortega each scored three goals apiece to lead the UNC offense. Katie Hoeg and Melissa Sconone each added two goals to the cause as well.
The Tar Heels led 7-2 at halftime and also put together a run of five consecutive goals late in the second half in what was an absolutely stunning performance for head coach Jenny Levy’s squad.
