One suspect was arrested and authorities are searching for a second after a heroin bust in Orange County on Wednesday.
Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office were conducting an investigation of “subjects suspected of delivering large quantities of Heroin to Orange County,” according to a release.
Two vehicles were stopped as part of the investigation. Authorities said one of the vehicles was stopped on Arthur Minnis Road near Union Grove Church Road and the driver was arrested.
The driver of the second vehicle ran after the car was stopped at the dead end of Cates Hickory Hill Lane off of Rocky Ridge Road. That prompted a reverse 911 call to residents in the area advising them to not approach the suspect and to call authorities, if they see anything suspicious.
Authorities said three kilograms of heroin were discovered inside the second vehicle.
A search of the area did not result in the arrest of a suspect. Authorities described the individual as a Hispanic male, estimated to be 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build and short dark hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a dark-colored short-sleeved shirt and a gray hat.
“After several hours of searching for the suspect, the Sheriff’s Office determined the suspect was no longer in the area,” authorities said in a release. “The search was terminated because the threat to public safety no longer existed. The identity of this suspect is unknown, and he remains at large.”
The driver who was arrested was identified as 18-year-old Jorge Luis Valderrama Garcia, of Chapel Hill. He has been charged with conspiracy to traffic heroin and is being held under a $500,000 secured bond.
Anyone with information regarding the identity or the whereabouts of the second suspect is asked to contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at (919) 245-2900. Callers can remain anonymous.
