As NFL teams continue to shake up their rosters ahead of next month’s draft, a former UNC standout found himself on the move Friday.
The Los Angeles Rams sent pass rusher Robert Quinn and a 2018 6th-round pick to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a 4th-round and a 6th-round selection.
Quinn was the 14th overall choice in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft coming out of UNC, where he tallied 11 sacks and led the ACC with 19 tackles for loss as a sophomore in 2009.
He was then ruled ineligible for the 2010 season in Chapel Hill when it was discovered he and teammates Marvin Austin and Greg Little had taken improper benefits.
As a result, he declared for the 2011 draft and was later sent a permanent letter of disassociation from the university.
It’s safe to say, though, that things have worked out just fine for Quinn as a professional.
Over his first seven seasons–all of them coming with the Rams–he’s posted 62.5 career sacks, 20 forced fumbles, 218 tackles and a blocked kick.
Back surgery limited him to just 17 games total during the 2015 and 2016 seasons, but he returned with a strong 8.5-sack season in 2017.
The main reason behind his trade to Miami is that he was set to count for $25 million against the Rams’ salary cap space over the next two seasons.
