The national ballot for the 2018 Wooden Award was announced Saturday morning on ESPN’s College GameDay show, with UNC junior forward Luke Maye among the final 15 candidates.

Maye joins Duke freshman sensation Marvin Bagley III as the only ACC players included on the list for the award, which is given annually to the top college basketball player in America.

Over the course of his three years in Chapel Hill, Maye has gone from unheralded walk-on to unquestioned superstar.

The Huntersville native leads UNC this season with averages of 17.9 points and 10.2 rebounds per game, while providing head coach Roy Williams unique lineup flexibility with his ability to play both inside and outside.

Candidates for the Wooden Award must also have a 2.0 grade point average in addition to top-level performance on the court.

A business administration major, Maye currently possesses a 3.45 GPA and was recently named the ACC’s Skip Prosser Award winner as the league’s top scholar-athlete in the sport.

Nearly 1,000 members of the college basketball media will vote on the award between March 12 and March 19, with the winner announced March 28 on ESPNU at 8 p.m.
