Orange County authorities have identified a suspect involved in a Hillsborough breaking and entering from February thanks to a piece of a latex glove at the scene. But that now-identified suspect was shot and killed in Durham shortly after the Hillsborough incident.
A release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office says the recently received information would constitute probably cause to obtained an arrest warrant against Brandon Taylor Winston in connection with the break in to a residence on Hunt Road.
The portion of the glove that was left behind at the crime scene was examined by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory. That inspection led to the profile match with Winston.
“Earlier this month, we got a [Combined DNA Index System] hit, meaning that a profile match occurred between the Forensic and Offender Indexes, providing us with the identity of one of the suspected perpetrators of the breaking and entering case investigated in February,” evidence technician investigator Corey Jones said in a release.
No arrest has been made in the shooting death of Winston, according to the release, and Durham Police are continuing to investigate that homicide.
Another suspect in the Orange County break-in, Isaiah Allen, has been arrested and charged.
Correction: A previous version of this story indicated Winston had been posthumously charged.
