Returning from a four game road-trip, the 18-13 UNC baseball team opens a seven-game homestand at Boshamer Stadium on Tuesday as the Tar Heels face off with the high-powered #22 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, who bring a 23-8 record in to Chapel Hill.

This will be a rematch of the game played on March 10, when the Tar Heels traveled down to Coastal and were throttled by a score of 13-2, the biggest loss they’ve had all year long.

In the 16 games since the previous match-up, UNC has gone just 8-8, while the red-hot Chanticleers are 12-2 over the same span, even entering the same top 25 polls that the Tar Heels have found themselves on the way out of.

Starting pitching has been UNC’s strength so far this season, behind weekend starters Zac Gallen, JB Bukauskas, and Benton Moss, but against Coastal on Tuesday it’ll be freshman Hunter Williams taking the bump.

Williams, a 6’3” lefty, has found success recently since taking over as Coach Mike Fox’s top mid-week starter. He took the loss in the previous game against the Chanticleers, but has thrown six innings and allowed just two hits in each of his last two starts made on Tuesdays, both of them coming in winning efforts, on the road at Elon, and at home against Appalachian State.

Coastal comes into Tuesday with an unblemished 5-0 record on the road and is led by a dangerous offensive attack that ranks in the top five in the entire NCAA, with 39 home runs as a team. By comparison, the Tar Heels have hit only 18.

Four players on the Chanticleer roster also have five or more long balls, which would put them in sole possession of first place on UNC’s list. Leading the charge will be outfielder David Parrett, who’s already smashed nine, and catcher Casey Schroeder, who’s got eight so far this year.

Tuesday’s first pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
