The UNC baseball traveled South to Tampa this past weekend for its season-opening series against South Florida, winning two of the three games to start 2018 on a winning note.

As a result, the Tar Heels held their spot at No. 6 in the D1Baseball.com Top 25 poll–which released its newest edition on Monday.

After being held to just three runs in Friday’s loss to the Bulls, the UNC bats woke up on Saturday and Sunday. In the two wins, the Tar Heels scored a combined 21 runs–capped by Ike Freeman’s game-winning solo shot in the 10th inning of the series finale.

The entire top 10 teams remained the same as they were to start the season.

Defending national champion Florida sits at No. 1, with Oregon State, Texas Tech, Arkansas and Florida State rounding out the top five.

Other teams ranked in the top 10 include: No. 7 TCU, No. 8 Kentucky, No. 9 Ole Miss and No. 10 Texas A&M.

The ACC has a total of five ranked teams, with No. 14 Louisville, No. 17 Virginia and No. 25 Clemson also earning a spot on the list.

UNC returns to action on Tuesday afternoon, when it hosts UNC-Wilmington in its home opener at Boshamer Stadium.
