Chapel Hill Police have identified the pedestrian killed on Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard Sunday night at 58-year-old James Thomas Keeter Sr.
Authorities say the victim lived on Ashley Forest Road, near where the collision was reported Sunday night just north of the Estes Drive intersection.
This is the second time a pedestrian has been killed after being hit by a car on Chapel Hill’s Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard in 2018.
The roadway has several large pedestrian crossings, but Sunday night’s collision did not occur in one. The victim in January’s crash was in the crosswalk, but police officials said they were crossing against the traffic signals.
Keeter was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a vehicle around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, according to police.
Police said Monday afternoon that the crash is still under investigation.
HE WAS A REAL NICE, CARING AND GIVING MAN.
