Seven athletic programs at UNC are being honored by the NCAA for placing in the top 10 percent nationally in Academic Progress Rates in their respective sports.
Those teams include women’s fencing, women’s golf, gymnastics, men’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and volleyball.
The Academic Progress Rate is a team metric that measures retention and eligibility of each scholarship student-athlete each semester, as well as taking graduation rates into account.
Women’s fencing and women’s golf have ranked in the top 10 percent for the last 11 years. This is also the tenth straight top ten finish for volleyball and the seventh straight for gymnastics.
North Carolina ranks 5th among ACC institutions, coming in behind Norte Dame (16), Duke (15), Boston College (12) and Virginia (8) as the schools with the most teams in the top 10 percent.
