Playing their first home game in two weeks, the Tar Heels dominated visiting Boston University at Carmichael Arena Sunday and cruised to an 82-40 win.

After committing a season-high 20 turnovers in its loss at No. 2 Texas Thursday night, Carolina tied a season low with just nine against the Terriers Sunday. On the other end, the Tar Heels forced 22 BU turnovers, which turned into 24 points. The Terriers did not have a single point off a turnover. Sunday’s game was also the sixth this season in which UNC’s defense forced at least 20 turnovers.

Carolina also held a decisive advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Terriers 45-25. Ironically, no Tar Heel finished with double digit rebounds – Nyla Harris led the way with nine. Harris was one of five Tar Heels to score in double figures with 10 points, joining Elina Aarnisalo (14), Indya Nivar (13), Taliyah Henderson (11) and Nyla Brooks (10).

Offense had been hard to come by in the first half, as UNC shot just 14-39 (35.9 percent) in the opening 20 minutes. On the other side, BU had more turnovers (12) than made shots (seven) in the half. But Carolina came out of the locker room hot, shooting 12-17 (70.6 percent) and scoring 28 points in the third quarter to truly put the game out of reach. Nivar scored 11 of her 13 points in the quarter and the Tar Heels led 66-31 entering the fourth.

UNC shot 11-25 (44 percent) from on three-pointers, with Lanie Grant knocking down three of her five attempts. It’s already the fifth time this season Carolina has made at least 10 threes. By comparison, the Tar Heels only reached that mark eight times all of last season.

The win improves Carolina to 9-2 overall this season. Up next, the Tar Heels will open ACC play when they host No. 22 Louisville at Carmichael Arena Sunday, December 14 at 4 p.m.
