No. 3 seed Wisconsin swept UNC in three sets in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Friday night in Madison. Carolina’s 2025 season is over.

The Badgers dominated the first set and won 25-14, earning an early advantage in the match. But the Tar Heels stayed close in the second, cutting what had been a five-point Wisconsin lead down to 18-17. UNC got within two points multiple times after that, but the Badgers eventually closed out a 25-21 win and put Carolina one set away from elimination.

In a close third set, Wisconsin scored three unanswered points to give itself two match points at 24-22. With their backs against the wall, the Tar Heels responded with three consecutive points of their own, giving themselves a set point at 25-24. That would be as close as Carolina would get to extending its season though, as the Badgers scored three straight points to win the set 27-25 and advance to the Round of 16.

UNC ends the 2025 season, the third under head coach Mike Schall’s leadership, with a 22-9 overall record and a 14-6 mark in ACC play. Carolina’s first-round win against No. 6 seed UTEP gave the Tar Heels NCAA Tournament wins in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2015 and 2016.
