Durham Police are investigating a fatal New Year’s Day train accident.
Police say just after 12:30 in the afternoon of January 1, a westbound Amtrak train struck a male who was on the tracks on Hillsborough Road, according to a preliminary investigation.
Authorities say 54-year-old Paul Klemmer, was pronounced dead at the scene.
None of the 96 passengers on the train were injured, according to police.
The accident is under investigation.
