A popular restaurant group in the Chapel Hill and Durham community has announced its latest venture.

The Giorgios Hospitality & Lifestyle Group shared on its Facebook page Thursday it will open a new restaurant into space at 201 South Elliott Road in Chapel Hill. Named Osteria Georgi, which translates to George’s Tavern, the ownership group describes the new venture as “a modern Italian Eatery and Garden” that will offer dishes like house-made pasta and braised meats.

The space, located near the Village Plaza shopping center, formerly housed the Living Kitchen restaurant, which closed in late 2019.

Owner Giorgios Bakatsias indicated a new restaurant venture for the lifestyle group was in the works following the closing of City Kitchen and exit from University Place in September. Another one of the group’s restaurants, Kipos Greek Taverna, recently moved from its West Franklin Street location nearby to where Osteria Georgi will eventually open. The Greek-food eatery now operates in the Eastgate Crossing Shopping Center and re-opened in November.

The Giorgios Hospitality & Lifestyle Group also owns the Chapel Hill-based restaurants Bin 54 Steak & Cellar and Village Burgers, as well as Vin Rouge and Local 22 in Durham.

According to the group’s Facebook post, an opening date for Osteria Georgi is forthcoming.
